Colonial Heights, VA. (WWBT) - Four people in Colonial Heights have been arrested after puppies were found in a plastic storage container.
On April 5, around 1:30 a.m., the Colonial Heights Police Department responded to a call on Temple Avenue, for a report of three abandoned puppies.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the callers, Shawna Leigh Keyser and David Preston Nichols, who reported the three puppies were found roaming on Temple Avenue near the city limits.
The puppies were reportedly found inside a sealed plastic storage container.
They were covered in urine and feces, and the container showed signs of condensation, indicating they had been in the container for a while in unsanitary and unsafe conditions without proper ventilation for a while.
Upon further investigation, it was determined that the dogs were taken from a residence in the 100 block of Salisbury Road before the call and not discovered on the bridge as reported.
Veterinary evaluation revealed the puppies were suffering from multiple medical conditions consistent with neglect, including skin infections, developmental issues, and a heart murmur.
