A powerful 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck the Philippines Tuesday evening, killing at least six people across Bohol and Cebu provinces. The quake hit just before 10 p.m. local time, with the epicenter located about seven miles east-southeast of Calape.
The quake's depth was reported at about 6 miles, which increases the likelihood of strong shaking on land.
CCTV footage captured some of the initial, terrifying moments, as buildings swayed violently and families rushed to safety.
Calape sits in the central Philippines, not far from Cebu City, one of the countrys largest metropolitan hubs. Its also relatively close to Tacloban, which many remember as the city devastated by Super Typhoon Haiyan in 2013.

(104,951 posts)OCD deputy administrator Bernardo Alejandro said 30 of the deaths are from Bogo City, which was closest to the epicentre of last night's quake.
There were 22 deaths in San Remigio, 10 in Medellin, five in Tubogon and one each in Sogod and Tabuelan towns, he said, adding the numbers are subject to further validation.
Its was not immediately clear how many people are missing, but rescuers are sifting through rubble of collapsed structures, mindful of the 24-hour window where finding survivors is most likely, he said.
