Georgia: Police clash with anti-government protesters - DW News



Georgian police have clashed with anti-government protesters who tried to storm the presidential palace in the capital. The unrest in Tbilisi followed a municipal election boycotted by the main opposition blocs amid a sweeping crackdown on dissent. Actvists say it's the last chance to save democracy in the former Soviet republic.

And I was puzzled to see so many statues of Stalin in Tbilisi since I thought he was "out of favor", so I asked. And I was told that Stalin was Georgian, not Russian, and he was held in esteem in then-Soviet Georgia "since he killed so many Russians..."
