So I went to order my glasses today

It's a complex rx, with progressive trifocals and a prism, so I could not order on Zinni.

I used the College of Optometry & had a full exam compliments os Medicare because I have retinal migraines & a family hx of glaucoma.

Good thing the exam was free because the glasses were $704 with a 20% discount. (The frames were $200.)

I thought the school would be cheaper! Did I get rolled or do glasses cost this much now?

Tyia!

Of course, everything is pricey right now. I would assume the college is less expensive. At least you are taking care of yourself and that's the important thing.

My current glasses are 9 yrs old.

In all fairness, the rx is very slight. I need the prism more than the slight astigmatism correction.

And no sign of glaucoma or any damage from retinal migraines!

If I want those magnetic sunglasses, having magnets in the lenses so that the sunglasses just attach to the front, that’s an extra $200! I would really love to not have to put a pair of sunglasses over my regular glasses anymore. Sigh…

Do they not still sell sort of universal clip on sunglasses?

I also insisted on shatter proof lenses, scratch, UV protetction & anti glare coating, but cripes that was an expensive visit!

Last time, I paid around. $380, 9 yrs ago.

How do people with a housefull of kids who wear glasses do it?

My adult gs's were $450 with the same 20% discount. Just plastic men's frames, shatter proof lenses & the Transition lenses. Of course, the dark blue Transitions are the only color that won't turn dark in the car, but that's what matches his frames & gorgeous blue eyes. Lol

I'll take a look online to see if I can find clip on sunglasses & pm you if I find them..

And the frames were "only" $200 -- nothing designer or special.

Not sure how parents with a housefull of kids needing glasses manage it.

And for the privilege, it will take 4 weeks for them to grind the lenses!

My last prescription was close to the price you described — eight years ago. After cataract surgery I put them on, and could see nothing. It was like looking as sheet of typing paper; everything was white. Fortunately, I don’t wear glasses now.

The last time I got glasses in the USA, it was hundreds of dollars, AFTER the insurance paid their part. Now I just order from
Zeelool. - My prescription is progressive, with anti glare for night time driving for a fraction of what it would cost me here. I need to get a new eye exam and get a few new pairs before the tariffs kick in.

Whenever I order my glasses, when I fill out the prescription form, there is place for prism on the form. I order from Zeelool or Vooglam. They are Chinese companies but I am more than pleased with their services. In fact, I've had better service from them than Visionworks. The last time I had glasses from Vision works, I had to return them twice even though they insisted that the prescription was correct.

I would ask Vooglam or Zeelool if they can fill your prescription. I think glasses, just like prescription meds are way over priced in the USA when they don't have to be.
