Anbody else here take Melatonin Gummies for help in sleeping?

Usually I take 2 at bedtime and sleep normally. But today I am feeling really, really sleepy despite my 2 cups of coffee this morning. I am wondering if this is a cumulative problem as I've been taking them now for about a month.

This is just weird. I feel fine other than being so damn sleepy, but I am in my 80s so I guess anything can happen.

I don't like gummies. I find the texture repellent. Maybe try another cup of coffee?

Odd that I was taking them for a while and didn't get so sleepy in the daytime and then whammy!

AND another cup of coffee!

I am 58 and I have been taking 2-5 mg sublingual melatonin at bed time for 2 decades or more.

I am not dependent on it to sleep, I can skip and still sleep. I did originally start taking it when work stress was making sleep difficult, but I've retired so work stress is gone and I sleep well.

I take it more as an antioxidant that crosses the blood brain barrier as a long term strategy to reduce oxidative stress.

I recently tried doses scaling up to 80mg and monitored my sleep and saw no real difference in sleep or any other noticeable benefits so I have reverted to 5mg.

Sleep measurements were with an Apple Watch and the apple health app.

Not the most accurate way, but it's all I have to work with at the moment.

I talked to a doctor before the increase and we found no research indicating problems with high doses. So it wasn't as a complete maverick move.

Feel free to ask questions. I can articulate my experiences but clearly not offer medical advice as I am not a doctor or any type of practitioner.

I perked up later in the day and have decided to stop taking the gummies for a while. I shook off my sleepiness and got busy making dinner for my husband and me. He was on a Zoom call with the Homeless Commission of New Haven, which he chairs (as a volunteer). The news is not good for any programs that progressive cities such as New Haven have had for years to deal with this population in our city.

but morning slieepiness is a problem for a lot of people, so that might be your problem. You can try cutting the dosage, see if that helps, Also, if you're used to that 2 cups of coffee in the morning, you might not be getting as much out of it.

Advancing age being the stinker it is (and I'm nearly the same age you are), metabolism is one of the things it tends to slow down. The good news is that we can eat less and do well on it. The bad news is that we have to start cutting down some of our drugs because side effects can increase. Eventhings we've been on for years can cause problems, I'm the poster child for that.
