Another great series to watch: Reservation Dogs on Hulu.
Part comedy and social commentary following the misadventures of a group of teenagers on an Indian Reservation. Does a great job of relaying their perspective in a way that comes across in a positive fashion, even with its self-deprecating moments. It's in its second season and has won awards.
Cast and writers are of First Nation descent.

I also like the acting of the two girls who just became friends in the same episode.
But I laughed hysterically with the conference episode. Favorite scene was when the women took the edibles and pictured themselves nailing a choreographed dance, but it was all in their minds. What they were really doing looked more like slow moving zombies.

(7,964 posts)From creator Sterlin Harjo to veteran actors like Gary Farmer and Zahn McLarnon to the young natives playing the teenagers, it does the best job of portraying the kind of Native people I knew growing up. As the OP said, they are self-deprecating and funny, and have a lot to teach us about not taking ourselves so seriously, among other lessons. I love it and glad to see other series like Dark Winds, which is also great and stars McClarnon.
