"Trainwreck: Trainwreck: Poop Cruise" (Netflix)
I watched it so you don't have to.
An enormous cruise ship with 4000 passengers suffered fire and a power outage during a 4 day cruise from Galveston TX to Cozumel in 2013. The lights went out, the toilets would no longer flush, and food was no longer refrigerated. The toilets overflowed and people were given bags to poop in. Eventually the showers (where they were told to pee) overflowed. To make things worse, the company decided to have an open bar.
I'm not a cruise person. But if I did go it would never be on one of these huge ships. When things go wrong in the middle of the ocean, they go really wrong.

(125,524 posts)I've never been interested in a cruise on one of those huge ships - sounds like my idea of Hell. It looked like a nightmare even before the ship broke down, jam-packed with partying people, definitely not the way I'd want to spend a vacation. Then there was a fire in the engine room, which was put out quickly, but there was too much damage to restart the engines - which meant that there was also no electricity except for some emergency lights, and electricity was needed to operate the toilets. So then, 4,000 people were peeing in the showers and pooping in red plastic biohazard bags. There was hardly any food because there was no refrigeration. To settle people down they opened the bars, but then people got drunk and started fighting. Finally tugboats showed up to tow the ship to shore, but turning it caused it to tip and the sewage to slosh around all over the floors so people were wading in raw sewage. So what started out as my idea of Hell became exponentially hellish, and now I really, really don't ever want to set foot on a cruise ship.

(20,993 posts)But the idea of 4000 people getting drunk on a boat that is stranded in the middle of the ocean {and people are already frustrated) seemed like a really bad idea.
People could have started getting sick, and sickness spreads quickly on a cruise ship... especially when you're talking raw sewage.
As bad as it was, it could have been worse.

(15,391 posts)It's a great way to visit a lot of places in a short time. In fact, we're leaving on one Friday. Stockholm, Helsinki, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Gdansk, Germany, and finally Copenhagen. Seven countries I've never been to. The thought of a 4000 ship makes me ill.
