My Mother Jayne, now playing on HBO/Max was fantastic.
Its a beautifully made documentary by actress Mariska Hargitay about her blonde bombshell mother, actress Jayne Mansfield, who died in a car accident in 1963 when Hargitay was 3 years old. Hargitay proves herself to be a very talented and candid filmmaker; this film was expertly structured, moving and riveting at times in what it reveals about herself and Mansfield, her extraordinary life as an actress and mother. Very highly recommended.

(1,414 posts)Family secrets. Very moving. Not going to give any spoilers, but my husband
could relate. He was very moved by it and had never heard of Mariska Hagertay.
I've seen every one of her episodes on TV.
She was very brave to do this and so were her siblings and father.
La Coliniere
(1,475 posts)She was performing at a nightclub called the Glen Casino in Williamsville, NY that summer. Glen Casino had a small but vibrant amusement park on the same grounds as the nightclub and Mansfield made an appearance there to sign autographs. My dad and my uncle stood in line to meet her with me at their side begging for money to buy more amusement ride tickets. As they were getting her autograph she noticed me and said what a cute little boy and gave me a quick kiss on the cheek! Ill forget that day and the tall pretty woman in the tight white dress with the big red bow. My dad, when he was alive, loved telling that story.

(28,915 posts)but I believe my parents took us to that amusement park several times when we lived in Hamburg (about 20 miles south of Willamsville per the map I just checked).
I did not have any experiences like yours, though!

(1,475 posts)In the last years of operation in the late 60s and 70s it became a teen nightclub called the Inferno. The town of Williamsville finally bought the property and turned it into the lovely public Glen Park.
