I have a bone to pick with Wednesday Season 2.

Almost finished the four episode mini-season, but I had to pitch in when Wednesday's grandmother appeared in a scene. It's Joanna Lumley. She's a British actress who I'm sure is renown in her part of the world, but how can she be Morticia's mother and still maintain the mystic of a Spanish gothic family origin? There is no indication she has any influence of Spanish culture.

I kind of feel like there was an effort to anglicize the role.

I could agree with slavic, or maybe Eastern European. Baitball Blogger Aug 6 #2
I think Angelica Huston would have been a better choice. TommieMommy Aug 7 #3

The only character with a somewhat definite ethnic background is Gomez. Grandma Addams seems to be Slavic...maybe. Mithras knows what Fester is. The vagueness is an essential part of Charles Addams' creation.
Then there's Cousin Itt.

But the present grandma embraces none of the qualities.

You know who does a good Eastern European impression? Angelica Huston.

My guess is her silhouette may have been too matronly for the "look" he was going for.

I am willing to give Tim Burton a chance to create a believable backstory for Morticia Frump's side of the family. Though, I also wonder who came up with the name Addams for a Spanish or even Latin American genealogy. So, there's a lot for Tim Burton to tie in.
