Dead of Winter, now playing on HBOMAX

was a complete waste of time. I give credit to Emma Thompson for stepping out of her comfort zone, even though it seemed she was channeling Marge Gunderson from Fargo. Nothing really worked for me in this so-called thriller except the cinematography; beautiful winter shots of rural Minnesota that was actually shot in Finland.

... that actors so often take the heat for what happens in the editing suite, over which they have zero control, unless they're also the director. Really good scripts have been chopped into chum by bad editing, bad direction, or both. But, as you said, Emma gave it her best shot. I've always liked her work.
A classic example of an actor being blamed for someone else's boner: George Clooney being vilified because there were nipples on Batman's suit. Clooney was NOT the costume designer!
I remember David Mamet, who lived in Vermont at the time, choosing to film in a neighboring state because Vermont didn't look enough like Vermont. My estimation of Mamet's judgement took a nosedive with that revelation.
