Exercise and Fitness
Related: About this forumWeek 8, would be 9, but we were camping for a week
last week, in fact, when I was able to walk around on uneven ground and sit on hard wooden chairs without trouble. I was able to just stand up from chairs without thinking about it.
My progress isn't fast, I'm raising the weights slowly and it seems to be improving my functioning quite a bit.
I still hate the exercise bike with the heat of 10,000 suns, but I do it anyway, because I need some cardio and walking requires me to leave the house and navigate our terrible sidewalks.
So, keeping going. Soon it will be a habit? Maybe I'll look forward to it some day?
I enjoy being able to move more easily.

(55,668 posts)I just broke the bike out for the first ride of the season, and I was surprised at how much easier it was than before I started with the weights. I just hope it's accomplishing what I'm doing it for, namely building spinal bone.

(18,257 posts)doing that as well...it will at very least help the muscles that support your spine!
At the end of the week, I was tired, my back was a little sore from sleeping "not in my bed", but I was actually able to help tear down our two heavy canvas tents and load the trailer...but was not needed for much of it, since my DH, two sons, and middle son's partner took care of that while I sorted the ropes, since no one else can seem to keep the fly ropes and tent ropes separate.

(4,188 posts)Just like you I have had my difficulties and just like you I am getting through them. My observations is that for neuroplasticiy to work well. We must work the problem physically. Work it as hard as you possibly can.
It has paid off for me. Try this. Don't use your hands when standing up from a chair. Good for the core, glutes and thighs. I have not mentioned this before but I had a couple strokes 3 years ago and a few TIAs. Through hard work I have gotten back to some sense of normalcy.
You are doing great and please trust me. It gets better in time.
Check with a HCP before trying unsolicited health care advise.
