Does anyone here take venlafaxine (Effexor?

If so, does it leave a weird taste in your mouth and make food taste different? Doc thought it was time for a change in my SSRI and I'm not sure if I like the new med.

Thanks. I guess I can attest that it's true, LOL. Laffy Kat Jun 2021 #7
You can check for that side effect online. Others are more serious. flor-de-jasmim Jun 2021 #2
Thanks. I've already had one check-up on it and all he did was raise my dosage. nt Laffy Kat Jun 2021 #10

My husband took Effexor for years. He stopped feeling like himself and told me he thought about suicide. He never acted on it, but he became so anxious over it that he weaned himself off the medication - - too anxious to talk to the doctor about it.

If you haven't already done it, I'd ask the doctor to discuss the side effects of the various options.

Good luck.

I took a close relative of this. Desvenlafaxine. Had no difficulty with it and it really helped me with situational depression. Sold as Pristiq. And had no issues with tapering off dose to quit.

Especially at the dose I was taking.

Add that to the list of crazy things I've done in my life.

Yep, because I didn't like some of the side effects.

What came next was worse.

Effexor did stabilize me enough to reveal other mental health issues I have in addition to depression.

A lot of it probably boils down to PTSD which I fiercely denied for a long, long, time.

I'll post this with the usual disclaimer -- don't ever take any medical advice from me!

I appreciate your insight. I've already learned my lesson about quitting psychotropic meds. cold turkey. I sure do wish I didn't have to take anything.
