Soy bean oil weight gain?

Last edited Tue Jun 15, 2021, 09:36 AM - Edit history (1)

I went on a lower carb diet in Oct. 2019 and lost about 50 lbs. It was staying off, but recently, I started gaining. I got a new prescription from my dr. and thought it might be the culprit. I checked and there are some reports of compulsive eating linked to the medicine, but I wasn't compulsively eating. I hadn't changed anything, except had been eating fresh strawberries with light topping. The season is over, and I stopped getting topping. But gained a couple more pounds.

I began eating this way to get my sugar down, and the weight loss was a bonus. I got my sugar down to pretty normal, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that the weight loss means a lot to me. I haven't been losing, but hadn't been gaining and didn't think I would after all this time. I don't weigh every day, but I noticed my weight was going up, and it was driving me crazy.

One of my go-to meals is jalapeno chicken. As I was stewing about the scale, I realized that I had recently switched from using olive oil as an ingredient, to using soy bean oil I had on hand. I thought I'd get it used up, and it was older than the olive oil. Aha moment! I checked online and found an article on the Eat this, not that, that links soy bean oil to weight gain! I haven't used it since last week, and I've dropped 2 of the 6 lbs I gained. I think I found the culprit

Just wanted to share my non-scientific findings in case it helps anyone

That’s good to know. I only use olive oil or canola oil (when I DO use oil, which isn’t very often) but since I seem to be on a perpetual diet, that’s good to know what to avoid.

I seem to lose and gain the same 3 lbs. over and over. ☹️
