What's for Dinner, Sun., May 3, 2026

I'm having the breaded flounder I was planning to have last night. Instead, because a wheelbarrow containing a 40 lb bag of garden soil fell on my hand, I had soup last night because I had to ice my hand.

It is pretty much OK now, though, but I still couldn't hold a protest sign at today's protest. I managed to tape my sign to something near by me so it looked like I was holding it.

Here at Maison Drum:

I’m finishing a pot of red lentil soup. Grated carrots and ginger, red lentils, chopped onion & garlic, tomato paste, chicken broth, cumin, a little cayenne, olive oil. When it’s done I will add juice of a lemon and a handful of cilantro, and purée it with an immersion blender. Serving with a dollop of plain yogurt, and maybe a dash of something spicy.

Later, making panko covered chicken cutlets and sautéing some baby Bella mushrooms with butter.
Serving with a veggie slaw topped with baby cukes and avocado.

I love cooking on a Sunday!

Today our Sunday dinner will be Turmeric-black pepper chicken with asparagus along with Savory Coconut Rice. I just recently saw the chicken recipe in the NYTimes.

I was lucky to find good asparagus at the supermarket. It was pricey - $5 a bunch. I bought 2 and will make another recipe with it later this week.

9. Lentil Vegetable Soup

Was cold out this morning so I made a large pot of lentil-vegetable soup using my usual recipe. Besides the lentils, canned tomatoes and tomato paste, this version has diced onion, celery, carrots, yellow bell pepper, zucchini, cabbage, peas, mushrooms, spinach, parsley and garlic. Soup is seasoned with dried thyme, oregano, red pepper flakes and black pepper. Toasted multigrain bread to go along. Cheers!🥂
Hey Cher, hope your hand gets better soon so you can get back into that soil and do your thing. I used to garden quite a bit, but now it’s only tomatoes that I grow in pots around the yard and Romano beans along my back fence. Cheers!🥂

I thought this was easy and adaptable to what one has on hand, though I think the asparagus and peas are pretty much required. I added some cream cheese to make the sauce a little thicker.

Good wishes for your hand to get better, Cher, and may this be the only gardening accident!

with mashed potato, lima beans, and coleslaw. I suspect the are other things to add to my plate in the refrigerator.

Poor Ducky, he can't have the ribs because of the seasoning. He's going to have carrots, blueberries and a doggie sausage.

Since it is a Sunday TJ is off to work in a few.

Big turnout for this thread tonight..
