"Wait, what was that?"
Dog (Shadow) hears someone(thing) approaching front door.
Instinctively knowing mommy/daddy asleep
dog goes on alert barks once, wakes up cat KC,
barks again, waking humans, barks twice, startling cat and
turning on instant porch flood light in low wall-mounted nitelite,
while anxious dog trots down hallway tentatively followed by
also anxious cat as intruder attempts uninvited entry through
unlocked front door and dog viciously yarks and barks rapid fire
as screen door tries to open but cannot due to seventy-pound dog pushing against it while aroused and pissed-off cat leaps repeatedly
at inner door scratching madly at custom-made claw-proof chalkboard-like surface producing terrible, terrifying, maximally annoying noise like fingernails deliberately drawn down forcibly on an actual chalkboard all of which results (documented tests have proven) in emotional response* from frustrated pseudo-intruder, which triggers tendencies from the fight or flight gene, acting as the body's primary self-defense mechanism. Bottom line pets prevent fleeing felon from disturbing their peace.
Both animals receive extra nighty-nighty treats. And suggest
strongly that mommy/daddy lock their damn door from then
on.
*With apologies to Wikipedia for emotional response reference

Perhaps you could spread out all of the extra treats, hugs and scritches theirr proud aunts, uncles, and cousins are sending along over a few days. We would not want them to become spoiled, or anything.
LOCK YOUR DOORS (and windows).

...that she employs when neighborhood indoor/outdoor cats dare to cross our patio. Even tho I've heard it many times, it always startles me for a moment. I've thought many times that a recording of this screech attached to our alarm system would scare the hell out of anyone attempting to break in.
Good job, fur babies!

(6,451 posts)if that yowl could be amplified and played in tandem with the alarm sound, it would scare everyone within a two block radius into running blindly into the night! (LOL)
Good KC and Shadow. Excellent babies! Keep Mom and Dad safe in today's world. (I still remember growing up in a small town where we never locked our doors; and I've caught us a few times forgetting to lock up around here as we head towards bed).

Where would we be with our home security guards? Just having advance warning makes them earn their keep.
I especially appreciate Sophie dog because Mr. Diamond is very absent minded about locking doors! And many other things!
