I don't know about dogs, but cats will typically start to retch in the kitchen, on the tile, and then make a last minute dash for the most expensive or lightest color carpet in the house.

(24,555 posts)2. When my 19-year-old cat starts to retch, he runs to his litter box.
He stands beside it and then retches into the box.
Don't know how he picked this up (I did not teach him this), but he has done it since he was young.
He is a true treasure.

We have had many cats, over 50+ years, most lived until 14 to 18 years old range. We've had cats who could open doors, jumping and twisting door knobs, but none were smart enough to vomit into their litter box.

(24,555 posts)5. Yep, he can turn doorknobs, open cabinets, get into the refrigerator.
I had to put child-proof latches on everything.
He rules this house, including the other cats and dogs who give him a lot of respect, even in his weakened dotage.
