She used to love all the flavors. Now, she sticks her nose up at about 1/3 of the varieties. I have to cheat by mixing in a spoonful of one of the flavors she absolutely loves to get her to eat it sometimes. Anyone else having this problem?

(42,104 posts)Cats are always worried they might accidentally do something you want them to do.
Captures the essence of being a cat perfectly!

(67,620 posts)... be crazy for the outdoor cat food, so we used it for treats, then he snubbed it after six months or so cold. The outdoor cats didn't seem crazy about it, so I went to another "formula" and the cats all went nuts for it. There were visible differences in the feed each time in colors used and an added or removed shape.

(163 posts)I have 4 flavors that I give my 15 pounder, Louie. I have come across a couple that he's not too crazy about. But then the next day he'll scarf down the food. I don't want him to get sick of what I feed him. That's why I alternate.

(323 posts)they do quality control in the pet food plant. If the flavor were to change, who has the job of tasting it to find out?
One of our cats is twenty years old and finicky, and generally only eats the beef with savory center flavor. But on occasion he will go on a hunger strike and we wonder if something changed.

(589 posts)It has sometimes taken as many as 8 or ten tries to find what he wants at the time. Won't go the "Just leave it, he'll eat it if he gets hungry enough" route because he's quite thin and had lost weight when we last went to the vet. Vet found no other issues.
Not sure if FF has changed their recipes but he does switch away from a favorite but will then go back some days or weeks later even though the offering is from the same box. Haven't come across any former faves that have become permanent no nos...yet.
ETA: These guys' former cat mom, who died during the pandemic, had told me years ago, that Temptations brand treats offered full nutrition and were a good thing to have on hand for picky eaters. Didn't occur to me until months after he came here that she'd probably looked into it because of him. Yeah, I'm slow

(12,071 posts)We had to nuke his food a wee bit.....and it had better not be what he was offered yesterday. He would go back to a previously-served variety, but there had to be variety in between. Both of those are evolutionary traits - can't blame the cat for millennia of experience.
My current cat tries to climb my leg when I'm doling out FF, even if it was the same variety as he'd been given for several meals in a row. He is a MAJOR glutton, though. When he finishes his portion, he'll come around to see if my wife or I am eating something interesting, often with barely a heartbeat in between.

(931 posts)Fancy Feast has had "supply problems". At least that
was what Petsmart said. There was maybe half the
typical flavors for the last 3-4 months. Now my cats
only nibble at flavors they have enjoyed before. I presume
they have cheapened the recipe to increase profits.
You know, maga-ized it.

(6,451 posts)FF Chicken and Tuna was the Bee's Knees... until a month or so ago. Now, they turn their nose up and it, and one even tries to "bury" it. This has also happened with a few other of their flavors. I finally convinced my hubby (who does most of the store runs) to branch out and try other brands, which I'd researched and put down in a list. Some of these were rebuked by the cats, a few were treated as, Hmm... this is good (at least for now).
So yes, I agree, FF has changed out its formula. This may be due to trumps tariffs, such that some ingredients are either harder to get or more expensive (at least, that's what we're blaming it on in my household), and couple that with an increasing focus on draining us companion animal owners of every amount of money they can possibly wrench from us.
I've not seen any sign of decreasing supply here, just cats that don't want most of it anymore.

(9,941 posts)Better for them, per the vet. Especially 21-lb Charlie. I got a coupon for the new Fancy Feast Gems (the little pyramids with gravy on top.) They actually ate it enthusiastically! So I ordered a small case with my next Chewy order. Naturally now they lick the gravy off and walk away.
