Had my two rescue cats for 2-1/2 weeks now

Last edited Thu Aug 21, 2025, 04:28 PM - Edit history (3)

I've had my two rescue kitties for 2-1/2 weeks now.

The one that was cringing and scared has been slow to come around.

However, yesterday I received 21 cat toys that I bought on ebay.com for $10 or so.

The cringing kitty in the corner has come out of his shell. He is SO THRILLED with all of the toys!

His companion 4 month old kitty has been having fun with the toys too, esp. a mini tunnel that came with the toys.

As for my nine year old black cat, well she has been in on the action as well playing with some of the toys and mostly watching the other two go round and round!

The toy option really did the trick for my rescue cats. Who would have thought this would be the straw that broke the back of the camel so to speak.

Well worth $10 for 21 toys!

They seem to be doing very well overall. I had been overfeeding them when I first got them which was not a great idea so I've slowed down on the feeding en mass. It is not necessary but I'm sure they appreciated it but wow, the litter boxes sure didn't!

There were 21 toys in the envelope. It made no sense to put them all out at once.

Look who is protecting the other dozen or so of them for me! Missy!

Apparently he lived all of his life in a cage at the shelter with her.

Released from the cage, he's wild man, I mean, um, cat. It's a joy with some ambivalence to watch him go wild with his toys.

Interestingly his Mom is this nice sedate young lady, estimated to be about 3 years old, now spayed. Every once in a while she has to swat him to get him to calm down, for example when he jumps on her or tries to nurse. She's something of a disiplinarian.

They're helping us get over the loss of our 18 year old cat a while back.

Silver and Andreas were their names. I loved them so much.

They both died not long after he did.

I was reluctant to adopt given the 9-year old female I have but she was just as lonely as I am since my husband and his cats passed away.

I'm so glad I decided to ADOPT and not SHOP!

The woman at the rescue didn't have much good to say about Guarda. Given his behavior, I think he was abused and/or hit on the head. He is now purring and comes to his name when you call him.

Kitty Nialls is thriving in his new home!

We went to the shelter hoping to get a pair but came out with three siblings - it would have been wrong to not take all three. Laverne, Shirley, and Tilly (I didn't name them).

...no one goes into a shelter without adopting. (All the other cats we've had were either strays we took in or were offloaded by family members.) She claimed she didn't know that, and that I should have warned her. She loves these new cats though.

We kept the Mom's name given at the shelter but changed the spelling from Keke to Kiki. We renamed the kitten Harry after Harry S. Truman. The name turns out to be appropriate. He gives 'em hell.

I can just imagine how much fun you're having watching them play! I wish the four of you many, many happy years together.
