Sisal allergy

My cat seems to have an allergy.

She has a cat tree made out of sisal.

I was watching her climb on it yesterday and the bald patches on her front legs are in constant contact with the sisal of the large tree I have for her.

I was in storage in the garage for quite some time. I unboxed it and set it up right around the time her problem began.

Has anyone else run up again this?

If so, what did you do about it (other than get rid of the sisal rope tree?).

Thanks for any ideas.

1. One of our cats used to get bald patches on her front paws occasionally from excessive grooming.

I'd ask the vet before assuming it was due to allergies.

I think a lot of it is due to the situation here at home = stress.

Husband died and her two cat friends recently died as well.

Its just Missy and me and no one else these days.

Missy is quite healthy and active for a nine year old cat.

I think I have this figured out finally!

They can test her to see if she is allergic to sisal it seems.

One of the signs is bald patches on the legs it seems.

Sisal be gone!

>>Bald patches on a cat's legs can be caused by a number of possible reasons, including allergies, fleas, infections, or stress

She is a very well-cared for indoor cat. She has no fleas, etc.

Stress, definitely!

Allergy to sisal is what I think.

3. Sympathies to both you and your kitty -- that is a *lot* of stress to deal with. Never had to face anything similar.

Losing one cat is bad enough.

I have another new one in the garage that I bought awhile ago.

I paid $25.00 for it. Now it is priced at close to $100.00!

So, I'll unpack the new one and get rid of this old sisal one and see how things go.

I suspect it will take awhile for the fur to grow back but the problem is barely noticeable fortunately.

I couple of my friends have come by to see us and none of them think it is a real serious problem at this point but the longer the exposure goes on, the worse it seems to get.

This began right after I brought the sisal tree into the house which was right after my husband passed.

I'm so glad I think I have it figured out.

The vets where I live are pretty crummy.

They angered me something fierce when the one that died from the Round-Up Ready tried to get me to have his teeth cleaned due to plaque almost ignoring the fact that he was almost dead. I was back there again anyway the next day having the poor guy put down.

GREED.

God I hate these people!

My life has been a living hell since my husband died in 2022. He died of vascular dementia.

The two cats that died were bonded twins that he adopted in 2013.

The most recent one died on Jan. 2nd in his sleep it seems.

I found him dead in front of the furnace in the middle of the night.

I buried him in the backyard the next day.

When I realized he was dead, Missy was there. I was calling his name and Missy went, "Meowww" very softly.

The other twin died from Round-Up Ready exposure I believe. The landscape guy I had was not licensed to use it and he killed the entire backyard off and now two dead cats as well.

Luckily, being Missy never goes outside, he did not get her too.

The other two cats didn't go outside either but one of them would sneak out once in awhile. Sadly this was often enough that he was exposed to the Round-Up.

I turned him in and they did nothing to him but tell him to not use any more chemicals as he is not licensed.

Sad times around here, believe me.

I'm hanging on by a thread as my health is poor. I was in very rough shape yesterday in particular and went to bed at 6:00 p.m.

Missy is all I have now.

Thank you for not criticizing me. Its been a tough go and to have a lawsuit going on top of it just makes the whole situation even worse.

My sweet husband of 37 years has major short term memory loss though he remains cheerful and loving. Though I worry about him every single day. I hope you are or can get to the point soon where you take good care of yourself physically, mentally and emotionally. Doing whatever is needed to help you be your best and put you in a position to enjoy life again while maintaining your loving memories of those you’ve lost. 🩷✨

But other contaminates from the air in the garage or from the manufacturer. Try washing it with an antibacterial dish detergent.

It has a ramp and a pedestal on it as well.

I don't know how washing it would help as I live in a mold hell here.

It would probably take months to dry out while growing mold on it.

Thank you for the idea however. I will keep it in mind.
