It is a volcanic island and Erebus is about 40 miles away? I did spend 3 weeks working at Byrd Station. Got out of there just in time for some R&R back in CHCH for New Years, then back to the ice until late October.

An incredible tale which includes the most remarkable feat of navigation in history. Also, lots of photographs from the actual expedition.
