Alabama: Christian flag removed from Glencoe City Hall following letter

Christian flag removed from Glencoe City Hall following letter

The City of Glencoe is no longer flying a Christian flag from City Hall, following a complaint letter from the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation.

The foundation, which last year challenged nativity scenes in Rainbow City and Glencoe, and Christmas parades and football prayers in Piedmont, sent a letter to the city in March protesting the flag, according to the foundation website.

WBRC Fox 6 News is reporting that Glencoe Mayor Charles Gilchrist said the flag was taken down about two weeks ago after the city received a letter threatening legal action.

Gilchrist said the city decided to take the action because a prolonged legal fight might cost more than the city could afford.
