I don't know the state law in Colorado, but 21 is federal law when buying from a licensed dealer. Since the media hasn't went nuts speculating and advocating, I think its safe to assume they got them from the same people that sell nose candy and other under the counter medications.

They broke into accomplice's parent's safe. I saw the same claim in the Daily Mail. If the safe could be defeated with crowbars and axes, I'm guessing mom and dad cheaped out on the safe.

By moderate I mean the 700 - 1500 dollar range.

But even 2000 - 5000 safes appear to be easily defeated with 20 minutes of cutting saw on the side panels.

After researching safes, I realized that you really need to spend 5000 - 8000 dollars on a high quality safe and have it bolted to the floor and walls in a tight-fitting cinderblock rebar reinforced cubby hole. And even then its just a matter of time.
