Sitting on a bench by the river

My grandkid joined the h.s. crew team, fall session, and I'm waiting to watch her first race. I'm in the park across from the boathouse. No crowd this side. Nice fall weather.
Marietta is an amazing place

They shut the bridge down and it was full of cheering onlookers - colorful and cool to watch!

There are 2 bridges close to the finish, and they were lined with people. Lots of big voices, too.

They'll have a parade up and down the Ohio river near Cincinnati before winding up the festivities tomorrow.
My son was on his college (ND) crew team and enjoyed the sport at that time.

It flows into the Ohio at Marietta, and has a gentler flow. The crew teams row up about 3 miles to the starting line and race back down to the just past the Putnam Street bridge.

I learned a lot today about crewing, the length of the races, and the history of our local teams.
