I thought I had one, since I just had to read it when I saw the title, but "Sick Puppy" by Carl Hiaasen doesn't come close to your title.

And if you haven't discovered, Sherman Alexie, then get to the library. He's an Native American writer/poet and one of the greatest voices working in literature today. I highly recommend everything he has done.
