"Everybody's Fool" by Richard Russo.

Nobody does small-town life in upstate New York better than Richard Russo. His latest novel has the usual batch of flawed but funny characters---plus a couple of mind-numbingly evil ones. Beautifully written, a worthy follow-up to his Pulitzer-winning "Empire Falls."

man. I heard Terri Gross interview him on Fresh Air and he was great. I have read and love several of his books. Will have to put this on my list!
