Two Kings

One King
Worked for the People
Moved them further from slavery
Their ancestors
Ripped from their lands
Forced to the soil
By oppressive owners
Of the plantations

He saw the injustice
The hatred, the misery
A People separated
From freedom, from rights
Segregated
Split into an isolated world
By the so-called great nation
That didn’t want them

So sad for America
Tragic days
When an assassin’s bullet
Took down the King
For no reason but hatred
And fear of the Other
Who could live as one
With us…if we would let them.

Remember King.

--

The latest “King”
Who thinks he has the right
To destroy all the progress
With the stroke of a pen
To divide us once again
Into separate camps
To enslave us all again
Not just them, but all of us
Regardless of our color
Regardless of our sex
Regardless of our intellect
Only riches would save us
From the billionaires
And their plantations
Of steel
Chained to machines
Tied to desks and monitors
With no escape
No way out
As the “King” wallows in the trough
Believing in his power
To rule

--

In the end, the Reaper will call
The second “King” will fade
We will remember the first King
As a pioneer and blessing
And the second “King”
As but a curse.

the difference between good and evil
almost everyday
you see it
I am not an economist,
nor someone who deals with countries
at the state department of any land
we see it, we grew up with disparities
see the homelessness grow
year by year,
and the climate change.

Now, depending on how old,
what was it the civil war in the US,
what was it, slavery,
what was it,
WWI
WWII
Korea,
Vietnam
Jim Crow

Just what did we live through,
Or just what was it did we learn in public school
about virtue, or about true justice/ real representation in any democracy

We are rattled just now.
A whole lot of us are,
thinking and believing that there could one day be an end
to this hatred towards one another
that there could be some day the best
ingredients of all of us
working together to make a better
world for all

For all
For all
For all
For a whole lot of us can identify
with what you say
you do know this

My King
