drifting down the brown river alone in a dream
grasping at the last chances engulfed in wishes
listen for the faint sound see a small light gleam
waltzing weakening dances as the music hisses
caught rudderless adrift to the will of the current
unable to avoid the obstacles hiding in the path
cling to a useless grip a weapon is no deterrent
shivering as sweat’s icicles signal a watery wrath
the shore seems unattainable to starboard or port
waves gently swell and ripple the sides of the boat
each tale become inexplicable more lives to abort
growing ever more a cripple seek to remain afloat
to be at war and set alone no enemies nor friends
lost in a life far from home the combat never ends
