Why?

Why am I here?

Every day, the same
Working my life away
Burning my energy
On things I don’t believe in

Why do I stay?

Is it even possible
To improve my lot in life?
To be the person I want to be
To live life on my own terms?

Why should I care?

When my world spins into the void
People, insane, with no sense of order
Hatred consumes all I hold dear
As I become one of them…

Why should I live?

In the future, I have my hope
Someday, all will change
Love can reign if we let it
And the world can be at peace once again

Years from now, I wish to look into the eyes
Of grandchildren innocent and pure
To see love without condition
As I hold them tight in my tired arms

In the end, I want to know
That I did my best with life
To know it wasn’t wasted
On triviality or fear
