as the memories flow steadily into an unknown sea
pauses of minute hesitations create a formless flood
in this river that courses readily despite every plea
closer comes time cessation counting the last blood
glimpse of a moment passes a flicker of recognition
watched waters never wait ripples currents or waves
kneel by the shore splashes all rising in a repetition
both the love and the hate the births and the graves
dip the hand in and clutch what has been withdrawn
might it be objects of worth or a thing to throw back
images that mean too much a memory so long gone
perhaps one piece of earth from life’s eternity of lack
the waters merging and growing searching to their end
collecting into rivers flowing understanding to pretend
