temptation waits

lead me not into that heaven in which desire awaits
bound to a weakened soul that fails the smallest test
clinging to each possession as judgement is too late
staring in a bottomless bowl of demons and the blest
keep away i dare not touch even the scents are lures
craven thoughts foul lusts the need to wear the mask
to hide the face open as such diseases without cures
the fingers tightly trussed to be severed by the blast
now to steer these thoughts from the cloven hooves
buried so deep in the evil that i can never see a light
scars of the battles fought as sin no longer approves
the angel submits to the devil as darkness bests sight
to wallow in pleasure’s misery wishing it will not end
to hear a judge give delivery as the sin will not mend
