Creepiest Story I Ever Read
Thanks Nathan Robinson 🙄. (I am kidding Robinson is my second favorite writer after Yasha Levine, but this gave me the creeps).

The Ones Who Leave the Omelas
Our society is full of this stuff (factory farming, mass incarceration or as Alec Karakatsanis calls it caging people). Still, creepy as all hell..
I have never heard of an idea associated with utilitarianism from Jeremy Benthams Panopticon to that moronic Three Trolley Problem that doesnt have underlying vaguely religion adjacent themes where some sort of hideous, morbid, moronic and barbaric punishment is seen as somehow essential to human survival or progress.
It has no parallel with evolutionary biology. People like to point to the brutality of nature. Which is just stupid. In nature things are rarely asymmetric and its not this bs of claiming to be an intelligent and superior species that reaps the utility of cooperation on the one hand and then shifting to oh well we are just animals when thats convenient.
We really are a douchebag of a species with very narrow and limited imaginations
