I found this book, written by Otto Penzler, owner of The Mysterious Bookshop in NY & a professional editor.
The title is "The Lineup." Numerous NYT Bestselling authors tell how they crafted their characters!
I've read through the creation of Jack Reacher & now delighting in the underpinnings of Harry Bosch.
