https://www.mlb.com/news/classic-baseball-era-hall-of-fame-resultsWhat do we think of this? Ive never been the strongest Parker supporter, but Im happy for him, especially after his battle with Parkinsons. If youve never seen The Cobra at Twilight, you can watch it on YouTube. Its very good.
Also, Dick Allen Ive wanted for years, shouldve been in years ago, fell one vote shy 10 years ago for the Class of 2015 when he was still with us. Still, better late than never.

(43,618 posts)Im glad he made it. I got some of his baseball cards from back in the early 60s in a box somewhere Ill probably never find. Someone is gonna hit the jackpot when Im gone. Not too knowledgeable on Parker.

(52,003 posts)I recall seeing him hit a home run on the left of center field roof in the old Connie Mack Stadium. Must have been playing the Mets because we passed Yogi Berra who was a coach at the time hoofing his way to the train station back to NY.

(43,618 posts)The freaking World Series tickets were printed. I had a transistor radio. Listened to all the away games. One by one the season the title slipped away. Gene Mauch living in infamy. But Ill be a Phillie Fan to the end. Got my 1980 World Series Champ Ring and a shrine to Michael Jack in the garage.

(2,684 posts)As over the moon as I was about 2016,, my favorite moment as a sports fan, I feel like it would have been even more special if they won in 2003 when I was a kid and my sports fandom was especially at a fever pitch.

It's a legendary homerun in Chicago. Like the Kingman moonshot in '79.

(52,003 posts)I did find that the Hall of Fame is much more exclusive than I thought. 342 Hall of Famers, only 270 of them were players. The rest were managers and execs. So, 2-3 players per year make the cut.
Allen was exciting to watch. As the pitcher wound up, he would often twitch his right elbow, almost an indication this might be a home run swing. He used a long bat and his swing was more powerful than most anyone. He might have been even greater if he hadn't landed in Philly.

(11,218 posts)I think his induction is well deserved, and was delayed mostly because he didnt kiss the reporters asses. Im kind of ambivalent about Parker. Offensively, he was similar to Allen a bit less power. He had a cannon for an arm, but his drug use tainted him for me, even though it wasnt PEDs, if I recall correctly.

(2,684 posts)Allen wasnt the most congenial person, thats for sure, but his offensive production merited induction. I had the privilege of interviewing the late Hall of Famer, Jim Bunning, and asked him about Allen. He said Allen played like a Hall of Famer, and he was disappointed Allen didnt make it for the 2015 Class.
