Cha-Ching! The Mets sign him to a 3 year, $126 million contract. Because maximizing the money is more important to him, apparently, than playing for a team with a reasonable chance of winning the World Series. (Cmon, its the Mets. We already know how thats gonna turn out!)
Hey, the Mets had to do SOMETHING, after the Kyle Tucker rug was pulled out from under them by the Dodgers.

Because Bichette is known to be a below-average defender and the throw to first wasn't his strength at SS, let alone from third.

(26,247 posts)but the throw across from third to first is longer.

(26,247 posts)Spring training games are just getting underway, and Bo has some adjusting to do. We'll see how successful he'll be as the season progresses. The 1B certainly didn't help him here...

(13,928 posts)That being the case, maybe Bochette has a shitty arm for both 3rd and short. He'll have to do better; the Mets don't have an experienced first baseman on the roster.

(26,247 posts)The Mets didn't seem to show much interest in re-signing Pete Alonso. They went out and got Bichette and are converting him to 3B. And they also acquired SS Jorge Polanco, who they are converting to 1B out of necessity.
I think Alonso is going to have a strong season in Baltimore. He cranked his first homer of spring training yesterday.

(13,928 posts)That said he has a lot of swing and misses, and the Mets didn't want that long term commitment. We'll see what shakes out.

(61,749 posts)My beloved Red Sox need a big bat - preferably an infielder. If they can swing that, I am optimistic about the season to come.

(3,329 posts)After signing Cabrera and Bregman, they don't have the money. Or rather the Ricketts are too cheap to spend more.
Belli is the only one left and he'll probably go back to the Yankees.

(3,115 posts)I could see the Jays swooping in to try and snag Belli.
And dont forget Suarez. Too old to probably get a long contract, but the Yanks usually seem to prize guys with big bats over defenders.
