I actually saw Paige pitch in 1965 with the As. He was 59.

both sutter and fingers were pioneering closers

paige was a legend before he ever stood on a major league pitching mound. his record in the majors as a 40 something year old pitcher was 38-41. in the negro league he was 100-50 and, if I remember correctly, he was voted into the hall of fame by a negro league sub committee.
