Sanders to make first start for Browns; 42nd QB to start since 1999

Week 12 on the road, vs the Raiders, while Dillon Gabriel recovers from a concussion.

Shedeur Sanders, who began training camp as the team’s fourth-stringer behind Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco and Gabriel, will become the 42nd quarterback to start for the Browns since the franchise's expansion reboot in 1999.

Well, heck, I wish him a better game. I do. He was force fed a big slice of humble pie last week. That's life in a first job just about anywhere. Let's see what he learned.

He was with the team for four years, at which point they gave up on him. He was pretty good in his second and third seasons, even winning a playoff game after the 2020 season (first playoff win for the team since 1994). He was hurt in his fourth year. He has settled in as Tampa Bay's QB, and I think they're happy with him. They have good reason to be happy, anyway.

My point: the Browns had a good quarterback and quit on him. Complaining is the purview of any fan but let's remember that it isn't like the Browns have never drafted a decent selection.

exasperated by a nagging shoulder injury suffered by Mayfield during the 2021 season. They either gave up on him, totally mis-managed and/or treated Mayfield's injury, or personalties got in the way, possibly triggered by Odell Beckham Sr.'s whining about the lack of targets to his son (GM Berry released Odell Beckham Jr. in November, 2021).

The trade for Beckham was a disaster, and one I predicted then would haunt the Browns for years. But Cleveland wasn't finished -- they proceeded with making the worst trade in the history of the NFL by acquiring Deshaun Watson. And that will haunt them for a decade.

according to the stat sheet. One INT, one TD, took one sack. 11 completions in 20 attempts for 209 yards.

Didn't blow anyone away but didn't suck.

Anyone see the game and care to comment? Bay Area TV didn't broadcast it.

Cleveland D had 10 sacks???
