Josh Shapiro calls Netanyahu’s denial of starvation ‘abhorrent’, urges Trump to ‘flood the zone’ With Gaza aid

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro called Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s rejection of international hunger reports “abhorrent” and “wrong,” a signal of how far Israel’s government has drifted from the Jewish Democratic establishment Shapiro exemplifies.

Shapiro, speaking Tuesday at a press conference in Lancaster, has been a prominent critic of pro-Palestinian protesters since the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks and the subsequent war in Gaza.

It was “quite abhorrent what Prime Minister Netanyahu said roughly a week or so ago when he said, ‘there is no starvation in Gaza.’ He is wrong,” Shapiro said. “I think the rhetoric coming from Prime Minister Netanyahu only creates less stability and security for Israel.”

Shapiro’s accusation that Netanyahu is further isolating Israel’s standing in the international community come as more mainstream Democrats who once avoided public criticism of Israeli policy are now speaking out amid the worsening starvation crisis.

The remarks by Shapiro, who is perhaps the party’s most recognizable Jewish leader — his Shabbat observance was a feature of his 2022 campaign, and he routinely quotes Jewish scripture — suggests how deep the tensions run between Democrats and Israel’s government, extending to the party’s Jewish establishment.

a Palestinian government entity, or any group whose charter calls for the destruction of Israel, and death to the Jews.

I was specifically addressing what Josh Shapiro said, and agree with him on this.

It will be interesting how successful will Israel be when it takes complete control of Gaza, and if that will that change the dynamics of the situation?

The last I heard, Israel has said they do not plan to govern over Gaza, but their objective will be to get back all the remaining hostages, and insure that any authority over the Palestinians in Gaza are not hamas or any entity that calls for the destruction of Israel.

According to Bloomberg:

"Israel said it will take control of Gaza City — a move that could displace 1 million Palestinians living there — defying domestic concerns over the fate of the remaining hostages and an international outcry over the humanitarian situation in the enclave.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security cabinet approved the operation early Friday for the purpose of “defeating Hamas” after 22 months of fighting that’s killed tens of thousands of Gazans and sparked UN famine warnings. The decision stopped short of the full takeover that Netanyahu floated in an interview with Fox News on Thursday.

He said Israel would eventually “hand it over to Arab forces that will govern it properly, without threatening us, and giving the Gazans a good life.” The cabinet set a symbolic deadline of Oct. 7 to complete preparations, two years since Hamas — an Iran-backed Islamist faction which is on Western terrorism blacklists — triggered the war by attacking Israel, killing 1,200 people and abducting 250, according to local media."

How successful this will be?

The silence by most of Israel's neighbors since October 7 speaks volumes. The only exception I can think of is Iran and its proxies, and for the time being they seem neutralized.

Israeli Opposition Leader Yair Lapid said the new plan will lead "to many more disasters", and Hamas stated that the decision "means sacrificing" hostages still held in the Palestinian enclave." according to Bloomberg News.
