(Jewish Group) The DSA motion to censure AOC : She affirmed Israel's right to exist

And whereas, Ocasio-Cortez has not only ineffectively voiced opposition to the Democratic Party’s support of Israel’s unjust and criminal war, but has actively promoted said war as follows:

- In a March 2024 interview with CNN, Ocasio-Cortez failed to support Palestinian resistance against settler-colonial occupation, and instead stated her support of the United States and Israel’s plan to crush Palestinian resistance,

-In an April 20th congressional letter, Ocasio-Cortez affirmed Israel’s right to “self-defense” and supported further funding of the Iron Dome,

- Ocasio-Cortez endorsed Democratic presidential candidates Joe Biden, and later Kamala Harris, despite their unconditional support of Israel financially and ideologically, and,

- Ocasio-Cortez voted for House Resolution 888, which not only states that Israel has a “right to exist”, but that to deny this is antisemitic;

They also flipped the bird to Harris.

I'm sick of the DSA. If they are so great and powerful - why do they only have 80,000 members?

AOC doesn't need them.

in addition to those that are anti-Semitic.

It's time for politicians to pick a side.

I'll volunteer to do it: They are Marxists. They hate democracy and have no place in the Democratic Party, which the last time I looked supports DEMOCRACY.

Yeah the DSA does do stuff like that..seems self-defeating.

Well that’s sort of the spectrum of the Overton Window i guess.

I do think this war has to be stressful for Jewish people whose central focus is something else. It’s not to take away from the seriousness of anything to recognize that people have different niches to organically fill in the world and you can’t expect everyone to be you exactly, even when they agree with you.

I felt for these people:
https://forward.com/culture/694690/jewish-nonprofit-bintel-brief-antisemitism-israel/

May a Jewish nonprofit talk about something besides Israel and antisemitism?

Bintel says you owe it to those who care about your mission to try

Dear Bintel,

I run a small Jewish nonprofit that is both non-political and non-denominational, although the population we serve tends to skew progressive. We’re finding it extremely difficult to bring our message in the current climate, which is so narrowly focused on topics around Israel and antisemitism.

My question is: When is it an appropriate time to talk about other issues important to the Jewish community? We don’t want to appear insensitive, but we also think our mission deserves attention

If I eschewed people who don’t take environmental issues very seriously (and that’s a huge chunk of the farther left as much as the right and centre), I wouldn’t have anyone except a handful of bitter environmentalists like myself whom I know/follow etc. Consistency..it’s not a single issue world and people have different societal roles.

AOC is the most mainstream leftist there is left. I like her the best of the Dems. Elizabeth Warren probably doesn’t have a much longer career ahead.

These days anyone with any university ties (even past) has to weigh in since….well I personally don’t care about being on the right side of history since that sounds like superficial futuristic reputation management.

Getting things wrong is human. And I believe in the possibility of genuine change and redemption in all its fugly forms.

Even the Stormfront Nazi has a daughter who renounced white supremacy.

But I don’t like hurting peoples feelings if they come across you. And are just people not horrible people. Much harder to be a private human these days.

Nathan Robinson is one of the few people who has a fair amount of influence over me has forced me to comment on an issue I stay away from since ..don’t like serious issues being vanity posts to show heart in right place etc and I don’t like to shit stir 🙄. Arm twisting using academic responsibilities blah blah. Can’t anything subtler ever exist over being a hack. Well maybe not but these days either you should have no political opinions or web presence even anon or be clear enough I guess. I was never online due to casually held views or a desire for company. I felt strongly even as a non activist and someone who absolutely does not believe in the web etc for the most part (for someone like me..I am made of anti-influencer material though some rare people influence me). I am not very good at lying, so if you have to weigh in on stuff you avoid..I never do anything unless it has practical use at least one way if not another, since aside from ‘not an asshole/sleazy/stupid/cowardly/image conscious/sycophantic/disruptive/dishonest’, I don’t really care what anyone thinks about me. Hate being forced to muck with conspicuous adjacent crap-attracts the wrong crowd worst case..that no life web influencer type. Yeesh..trying to avoid collisions. The web is so full of holes and poor data hygiene.

I feel bad for Jewish posters on DU who are just random people stressed by the war which is a very emotional issue for ordinary people.

I consider that a dividing line re where real life internet use separates from politics/influence.
I see the posters here as humans and am sad to see this war stressing people out, whatever one’s take.

I haven’t talked to many of the Jewish or any posters here. But they are all nice people since this is kind of a community.

I also feel bad for people one may know irl who are Muslim or Jewish.
I am not either.

Irl ordinary people know lots of people with different views and you can’t bring the uncivil dialogue of online offline or into communities.
Feuding with creeps and meninists and admins is bad enough.

I find the tension of a balance between an anonymous online internet use politically as a non influencer, genuinely annoyed private citizen and use of the net while not being a tech critic or enthusiast. It’s just there to use.
I have never had to think this much about phones, net and comps. And I very much disapprove of celebration of the net. Which hopefully at least keeps the net minimally useful in its place.

Sorry…ongoing tangential screed. Hard to explain. Fugazi regulation and web cleaning stations. DU is mine to navigate the web and life colliding.
