"Which story do you prefer...

...the one with the cook or the one with the tiger (Richard Parker)?"

The interviewer: "The one with the tiger."

Pi: "And so it goes with God."

When the subject of god comes up, Pi tells a writer his unbelievable but intriguing tale of his shipwreck when he was a boy stranded on a small boat in the ocean. His only companion was a huge tiger named Richard Parker.

But of course the tale was an allegory of the real gut-wrenching story of the boy's terror after a ship wreck.

After telling both the allegorical tale & the real story, Pi asked which one the listener(s) preferred.
The allegory, of course.

And Pi replied, "And so it goes with god."

Point:

People prefer the fiction & fantasy above reality, since reality is extremely difficult to deal with.

As an old song goes, "tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies."

Have a different interpretation up the movie?
