These gas prices are almost as bad as the job market: Gas prices surge in Miami as spring break begins

Gas prices are continuing to climb across Miami-Dade County just as spring break gets underway, with Key Biscayne nearing the $5 per gallon mark.

The average price of gasoline in Miami rose 20.6 cents per gallon over the past week, now averaging $3.95 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.

That represents a sharp increase compared to recent weeks. Prices are now 106.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and $1.07 per gallon higher than this time last year.

On Key Biscayne, prices remain among the highest in the area. On Friday evening, both the Mobil and Shell stations were priced at $4.99 per gallon. To start the work week, prices eased slightly to $4.79 per gallon.
