‘Extreme Kids’ help other kids by donating food, entertainment

When a Quad-City magician heard eight children in one summer say they were hungry and had nothing to eat, he decided it was time to try a new trick.

For the second year, the River Bend Foodbank became a playground Saturday for kids who want to help other kids get enough to eat.

Extreme Kids Helping Kids Day is the brainchild of magician Rick Brammer, who said he became “bothered” by remarks that were made by children at events where he was performing.

“I’ve had too many kids tell me how hungry they are,” he said.

So, he reached out to the people he knows best: other entertainers.

“We are a tight group,” he said of the collection of clowns, magicians, jugglers, face painters, caricature artists and other children’s entertainers who volunteer for Extreme Kids day. “We know each other very well. Some of us are even competitors.”
