Somewhere, I have the published screenplay that I bought when the film was released. On the frontispiece, the writer, William Goldman wrote, "Not that it matters but most of what follows is true." What an awesome statement!

I love the scene in South America when they decide to "go straight" and work for the payroll for a mine. Butch and Sundance are all nervous about where the bandits may be lying in wait until their boss reminds them that they haven't got the payroll money yet! Hilarious.

The chemistry between Redford and Newman is spectacular and when they worked together on "The Sting" I hoped they would make another film together. It was only a few years after the first film. Unfortunately, it's another of my many hopes that have been dashed!

Sex aside, one of the all-time greats. Saw it on the big screen about 15 years ago as part of an old movie series at a grand old theater in downtown Dayton. They stopped the shows when covid appeared and never went back to doing it

Butch: (laughing) Hell, the fall will probably kill ya!

Of all the films that tried to reinvent and reinvigorate the Western, this one is the most charming.

The elevated train and facades used as Boliva in the film's montage of stills (originally built for 'Hello Dolly') were still there 16 years later when I worked at 20th Century Fox.
