having an extramarital affair, and being estranged from his strong-willed wife. The parallels with Bill Clinton were supposed to be obvious.

But if you watch the movie closely, you'll see that Bill Mitchell is actually a Republican. His political allies are all Republicans, his opponents including Tip O'Neill, are all Democrats, and Mitchell is opposed to funding for work projects like renovating a homeless shelter.

I wonder if "Dave" wasn't anticipating Trump, or at least something like him.
