(6,642 posts)The average NBA player is 6 feet 6.59 inches tall and weighs 216.5 pounds
The average WNBA player is 6 feet 0.65 inches tall and weigh 166.6 pounds.
So the average NBA player is 6 inches taller and 50 pounds heavier than the average WNBA player.
Could women compete on a similar level with men of a similar size - maybe (I think so), but there are very few men as small as the average WNBA player who even play major college basketball let alone in the NBA. For example, Penn State (my team who does not have a strong history of success in basketball but looks to be very good this year) has just 2 players shorter than 6'5" on their entire roster. Their smallest player is 6'1" and 190 pounds - still much bigger than the average professional woman player)

(2,353 posts)Mind you, I don't remember seeing it as an Olympic sport, haven't seen it on ESPN-8 at all. I think it's a team sport with equal numbers of men/women designed to de-emphasize raw strength. I remember seeing something somewhere about it

Perhaps being strategic with the positions. If its a mixed team, guys play Center and Power Forward. The other positions open to women.
