(10,283 posts)My outside plants all started flowering in June this year - they were already 3 months old when I put them outside. I had them indoors with long light before putting out end of May.
Its really hot this year and not only age & light but temperature can also determine when flowering will start - plus strain - pure sativas flower later.
Many plants are done flowering end of August or first 2 weeks of September. Most seed banks keep selling seeds that have shorter grow periods.

5 feet sounds like outside.
Im in Michigan also about 3 hours north of you in Hale
little east of Tawas.
Are you growing photoperiod? Sounds like it if you had to sex your plants.
Bag seed?
Outside with the variable weather weve experienced this year most everything is on a delayed schedule.
Our garden is way behind
and were not the only ones. My wife is in a Michigan gardening discussion group and lots of people in our grow zones are experiencing delayed harvests.
Here is a link for what to expect a Pre-flowering cannabis plant looks like. If you already know this, sorry.

(26,158 posts)She was kind enough to send me a bunch of seeds. They're some sort of hybrid which includes an Afghani strain. They're not sexed, so I've been keeping an eye out for males and yanking them. They're growing in my backyard where they get a ton of sunlight. They're about 5 feet tall now. I think I pulled all the males but there's a plant or two that still might be male. I'm new at this so I'm still figuring things out.

Take a look at this guide.

Its been a long time since I grew outdoors in ground with unsexed seeds. But in general what I remember is that male plants grow taller than female as the pollen then settles down unto the females. Most seeds you can buy today are feminized, you dont have to deal with males. Then there are feminized Autoflower seeds no need to worry about light change
its automatic.
Females should be shorter and bushier.
True Afghan is a kinda short bushy plant. Link below describes different.strains.

(26,158 posts)There are a couple I'm keeping an eye on. They might possibly still be males. No flowers as of yet.

(10,283 posts)Looks like they are breading them for high THC and monster yields. Lots of growers now using 100 gallon cloth bags - one plant per bag.
