(249,442 posts)2. A few years back my friend returned to college, but the MMR vaccine was required before she could attend classes
I remember because I drove her. This makes no sense because we know that this vaccine has saved millions of children's lives - same as earlier vaccines preventing polio and pertussis (whooping cough).

these outbreaks are in religious communities in red states.

Measles is far and away the most contagious of these "childhood" diseases. Not to mention it's a lot more serious than most of us realize.
I'm old enough to have had measles as a child, so I'm forever immune. But my sons got the MMR vaccine.
