(17,131 posts)I am in a hairy semi-conflict of that type in two countries by now. But it is complicated by the fact that I have to ensure these sleazy corporations like Google and Facebook or people who think like that creep Alex Pentland, here in India, do not defang the complaint by shifting the blame somehow to my academic colleagues and mentors (or at least straining them by causing tension - my thus far slapdash reflexive strategies have been complicated by my struggle to find an even keel as I recovered from an early insult-literal and metaphoric) or doctors etc and exploiting plausible deniability.
These guys are neither scientists nor business people with even any actually useful products or services.
They are unwanted middlemen who have creepily and parasitically encroached everywhere without permission using the mind numbingly stupid model devised by a few creepy companies and defense contractors etc mostly out of CA and WA and locally the local tech rot of the same type, as if the web is some sort of universal model for the world.
As if all sided corrupt and parasitic politicians and industrialists can decide what flies and ignore sexual harassment/stalking laws, informed consent norms in medicine and research (as honestly and intelligently extended to data science and ai), labor laws etc and shunt the blame to doctors or academic scientists working inside the rules of these parasitic tech co.s.
