Federal law enforcement officials have shared initial details about the assailant who charged a security checkpoint at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday.
The Associated Press identified the man as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California, citing law enforcement sources. He was apprehended after he ran toward the checkpoint while carrying a shotgun.
Law enforcement said he was a guest at the hotel where the Correspodents' Dinner took place. They were searching the room he booked at the hotel, as well as an apartment he rented in California.
President Trump shared images and footage of the suspect on social media. He confirmed that one U.S. Secret Service agent was shot at close range.
Jeanine Pirro, the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, said the suspect would be initially charged with two counts: Using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer using a deadly weapon.
His arraignment would be on Monday in federal district court, Pirro said. - 04/26/2026.
