Maddow: Advice on DEFIANCE in the age of Trump - Rachel Maddow - MS NOW

Rachel Maddow talks with Julia Angwin and Ami Fields-Meyer, authors of "On Courage: How to be a dissident in an age of fear," about "the central question of how to live right as an American citizen right now," and the variety of ways people can throw sand in the gears of authoritarianism to preserve democracy. - 06/29/2026.

But it does require more thought and planning. A thumbs down beats a flipped up finger. I love those images of Meal Team Six as the image for maga. We need a maga joke book. We need to put up funny bill boards.
They can’t stand being laughed at. It disarms them.

The felon-in-chief is extremely easy to make fun of. However, we know that he has no sense of humor at all, he can't stand being the punch line in jokes as much as he deserves it, look at what's happened to Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel.

There were four of us and my networks were CBS and Fox (Fox Entertainment that shows The Simpsons). I considered myself lucky, I had to call the publicists, I was friendly with all of them, especially the one for David Letterman and the one for 60 Minutes. And my main news contact was Dan Rather's publicist. When I had surgery, one of them even called me to see how I was doing. The only ones that were unfriendly were the women at Face the Nation, acted like I was bothering them on Fridays, which I probably was. So the decline of CBS does make me kind of sad. But what makes me even sadder is the loss of Stephen Colbert, I've posted his monologue and opening here on DU since 2017, I think. And any political guests. But they did it to themselves and deserve to lose viewership - or worse.

Thanks to you, I ordered the book for my daughter and she will receive it tomorrow when it comes out. She is a dissident already, and I expect the book will give her lots of ideas.

I'm going to get it for my Kobo tomorrow.
