Related: About this forumOMG: Trump utterly humiliates Mike Johnson - Another Day - Brian Tyler Cohen
BTC: Trump's minions rush to excuse his blasphemous behavior, proving once again that he is their real Lord and Savior. This is just another day.
Our Republican lead Congress has only been back in session for a few short days. They've had a lot to catch up on, mostly addressing the recent war our president is engaged in.
[cut to video from Fox News]
Mike Johnson: Listen, um I'm not one to criticize uh uh clerics and and um religious leaders. We we defend free speech and we certainly defend the right the free exercise of religion and um you know a pontiff or any religious leader can say anything they want but obviously if you weigh into political waters I think you should expect some political response and I think the the pope's received some of that.
[cut to studio]
BTC: I'm sorry. You think the pope received just some of that?
[cut to video from ABC News]
David Muir: President Trump lashing out at Pope Leo, of course the first American pope.
[cut to video from Fox News]
Harris Faulkner: Leo should get his act together as Pope. Use common sense. Stop catering to the Radical Left. [reading Trump Truth Social post]
[cut to video from CNN]
Trump: I'm not a fan of Pope Leo.
[cut to studio]
BTC: Donald Trump dragged the Pope so hard you'd think the pontiff had called for justice for rape victims, but the Speaker continued his take on the pope.
[cut to video from Fox News]
Mike Johnson: You know, I was taken a little bit of back just honestly, frankly, by um something that was said, I think he said several days back that um something about those who engage in war, you know, that Jesus doesn't hear their prayers or something. Um you know, it is it is a very well settled matter of of Christian theology. There's something called the just war doctrine. And there's a time to every purpose under heaven.
[cut to studio]
BTC: Mike Johnson is trying to school the pope on Scripture. What is happening? That's like me giving tips on how to cheat on my spouse and settle a sexual assault accusation to Pete Hegseth.
And this isn't some politician who merely dabbles in Christianity that we're talking about. This is a man so devout, so adoringly biblical that he refuses to even jerk off without alerting his son first. Not sure what part of the Bible that's in, but I'm sure it's in there somewhere. And Mike Johnson isn't the only Republican man of faith putting his faith in Donald Trump.
[cut to video from TMZ]
Reporter: I got a question for you. Are you on the Pope's side or the President's side?
Ted Cruz: You know, you know what? I'm quite confident both the Pope and the President can speak speak for themselves.
[cut to video from Turning Point USA Conference]
JD Vance: But I think that it's important in the same way that it's important for the vice president of United States to be careful when I talk about matters of public policy. I think it's very very important for the Pope to be careful when he talks about matters of theology.
I I think one of the issues here is that if you're going to opine on matters of theology, you've got to be careful. You've got to make sure it's anchored in the truth. And that's one of the things that I try to do and it's certainly something I would expect from the clergy whether they're Catholic or Protestant.
[cut to studio]
BTC: Damn JD is trying to fuck with the Pope like he's one of his leather sofas.
Look, I am constantly surprised at how willing these guys are to debase themselves on behalf of a man who would never return the favor, but to go toe-to-toe with the leader of the Catholic Church because he had the gall to say, "The world needs to hear a message of peace and coexistence." Like, am I missing something? Did he say it while flipping the double bird?
All we ever hear from Republicans is that thanks to the actions of dirty Democrats and lecherous liberals, the moral fabric of our nation is being degraded by attacks on Christianity.
[cut to video at Turning Point USA conference from Forbes News]
JD Vance: I want to say something here. The only thing that has truly served as an anchor of the United States of America is that we have been and by the grace of God, we always will be a Christian nation.
Over the last 50 years, there has been a singular focus, a war that has been waged on Christians and Christianity in the United States of America.
[cut to studio]
BTC: I guess Donald Trump was right when he said,
[inset video]
Trump: "It's a war from within."
BTC: So sad. But this rush to excuse Donald Trump's anti-Christian behavior was not merely related to the President's attacks on the Pope. They also had to find some way to justify his doctored doctor photo.
[cut to video from CNN]
Mike Johnson: I talked with the President about it as soon as I saw it. and um told him that I don't think it was uh being received in the same way he intended it. He agreed and he pulled it down. That was the right thing to do. He explained how he saw that and um I don't think he thought it was sacrilegious at all.
[cut to studio]
BTC: Seriously, Mike, have some balls. You know, I'm not really sure where those stairs even lead to, but chances are that's not the stairway to heaven. You don't have to defend this president at every single turn. Even prominent members of Trump's own base have known that.
[cut to video CBS Morning News]
Norah ODonnell: Now, even members of the Christian right who typically support the president were offended, calling it inappropriate, inappropriate and blasphemous. One of the President's closest supporters said, "God shall not be mocked." But it's clear the President heard the message because he took that picture down without apology.
[cut to studio]
BTC: Hey, when it comes to Trump, deleting a tweet is akin to him reconciling with God. But no matter, he heard the cries of evangelicals asking him to cease with all the Jesus-based post and finally, finally, Trump did something that he's so rarely done in his past. He's learned his lesson.
[cut to video]
Reporter: And today, another image reposted to President Trump's social media account showing Jesus embracing the President.
[cut to studio]
BTC: Ah, maybe not. But that's right. All of these Christians believe Donald Trump's Jesus posting was dead, but he has risen.
The reality is all of these people who proclaim to hold their faith so dearly for some reason are willing to sell their souls for Trump. They will repeatedly claim the president was joking or that he didn't actually mean what he said or that Donald Trump simply has a colorful way of expressing himself. You know, like a toddler with fingerpaint.
But the question remains, why? Why on earth would these folks continually debase themselves when they all know in their heart of hearts Donald Trump is only going to embarrass them more? There will always be another Truth Social post to dismiss, another lie to cover up, another allegation to brush off. And even the most cynical part of me could wrap my head around their efforts being driven by the desire to hold on to power. But if that's the case, I think they're betting on the wrong horse.
[cut to video from CNN]
Harry Enten: Look at this. He's at minus 28 points as net approval rating on taxes, down 30 points from term number one.
[cut to video from The Takeout]
Major Garrett: New CBS News polling finds many Americans maybe quite understandably worried about the Iran war and skeptical the United States under President Trump meeting its stated goals.
[cut to video from CBS Morning News]
Host: Nearly two-thirds of Americans are feeling negative about the US economy.
[cut to video from CNN]
Harry Enten: We've seen a 10 point drop a 10 point drop in about a month's time when it comes to how popular this war is. It has become even less popular. And it wasn't popular to start off with
[cut to studio]
BTC: Not popular to start off with? I think someone is forgetting all of those Ayatollah Labubus that were just flying off the shelves.
But yes, poll after poll after poll is showing that the GOP is going to suffer in the midterms thanks to pretty much every decision Donald Trump has made. It may have taken longer that many had hoped, but millions of Americans are suddenly realizing that voting for an uneducated, money hungry narcissist falls into the bad idea column.
[cut to video from CPAC convention]
Young Attendee: I think they're going to get destroyed in the midterms. I I just I get the vibe. A lot of people I knew who just voted for Trump because they thought it was cool in like high school or just now just being like, I can't stand the guy.
[cut to studio]
BTC: Uh, hold on. High school kids voted for Trump because they thought it was cool? I guess peer pressure has really changed since I graduated. Say goodbye to drugs and say hello to MAGA hats.
If Donald Trump's advocates really want us to believe that the President is a man of faith and that his bashing of the Pope or his depicting himself as Jesus or his post showing Jesus hugging him are all merely smalltime sins for a man who truly cares about helping people, then why won't he show us? Right now, people in this country are hurting. Americans are struggling to afford gas and groceries and healthcare. So, where does this devout Christian leader of ours decide to focus his efforts when it comes to all those poor, hungry, sick people?
[cut to video at White House]
Karoline Leavitt: As you know, this year we celebrate America's 250th birthday. In honor of this historic occasion, President Trump and the Department of Interior will submit plans for the United States Triumphal Ark, which will be an architectural masterpiece to celebrate our history right here in Washington DC. Um, this is a uh rendering of the ark for you. Thank you, Peter. Um, it's quite beautiful as you can see. And this monumental ark will beam at 250 ft tall in honor of 250 years.
[cut to studio]
BTC: Oh, I get it. The height of the waste of money matches the year we wasted all that money. And that's not the only way this president has decided to celebrate the number 250.
Trump recently bragged about a $250 million offer from mega donor Miriam Adelson to shred the Constitution and run for a third term. He cut $250 million in Medicaid to people in Minnesota as political retribution. And in Donald Trump's first year in office, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg got $250 billion richer.
Every single one of these people can preach their religious bonafides until they're red in the face. But their lightning quick defense of this depraved president, and their condemnation of a peace-seeking Pope has shown how hollow those bonafides really are. To them, we are all merely fools to be duped. Rubes on the receiving end of their bullshit claim that they value their faith over their politics.
[inset video]
Mike Johnson: And I think the the Pope's received some of that.
BTC: Yeah, he sure has.
